Using ICT to teach collaboration

One of the values repeated throughout the Manitoba Curriculum is collaboration. It is considered the most sophisticated way of working with others and one that often requires that people be taught how to collaborate.

Competition>> Cooperation>>>Collaboration

  • Competition means working in opposition to others to achieve individual goals.
  • Cooperation means working together but with individual goals
  • Collaboration means working together to accomplish a shared goal.

Fortunately, many of the web-based ICT tools in common use have been built to support collaboration. Most of the applications introduced in this course can be used collaboratively including:

  • Google Docs
  • Google Sheets
  • Google Slides
  • Google Drawings
  • Google Maps
    • Geoguesser
  • Blogger
  • Mindmeister
  • AWW Online Whiteboard
  • Zotero Groups
Develop a lesson based on the Manitoba K-12 curriculum that uses ICT as a collaborative space. See for example Inventions, Innovations, and Discoveries: IMYM6
